Etre et Découvrir is a bilingual not for profit international Montessori school created in 1986. It is one of the oldest Montessori schools in les Yvelines (78). The school is located to the West of Paris.
The school grounds are situated in a unique natural setting located on the private estate grounds of the Chateau of St Nom la Bretèche.
The village is just a short drive from Saint Germain en Laye and the Lycée Internationale. Its neighbouring villages and towns include Plaisir, Villepreux, Fourqueux, Crespières, Mareil Marly, Noisy-le-Roi, Etang-la-ville, Marly-le-Roi, Chavenay and Feucherolles.
Our school is 25 minutes from Versailles and 40 minutes from la Defense.. The school's ethos is to develop the whole child in a beautiful, nurturing, multicultural, bilingual French - English speaking environment. Children have access to pedagogical gardens on the Chateau grounds where children are invited to pick cherries and apples when they are in season.
All of our pupils are supported in building their academic and social skills thanks to our wonderful team of French and English native-speaking
educators who follow the Montessori philosophy. Children who attend Etre et Découvrir are
encouraged to explore their own potential, grow their self-confidence, develop independence and develop a wide range of problem-solving skills.
Our school is open to children of all origins and cultures and welcomes children aged from 2 years of age to 11 years of age.
Our school has three classes, a toddler community for 2 - 3 1/2 year olds, a nursery class which we call our 'Children's House' for 3 – 6 year olds
(maternelle) and an elementary (primaire) class for 6 - 12 year olds.
Small class sizes enable our pupils to build confidence and work closely with our educators. We work closely with all our parent member families in a family-friendly atmosphere. Our aim is to help each and every child who attends our school to enjoy their school experience and to develop a life-long love of learning.

Preparation for international schools and emphasis on bilingual skills
Pupils in our elementary school learn in both English and in French. They are prepared for entry to secondary school while still remaining in a nurturing, Montessori-inspired environment. Thanks to this preparation, we have found that our pupils transition successfully into 6eme at French or international secondary schools (often bilingual) and have the adaptation skills needed to thrive in non-Montessori environments. Our pupils also develop foundations of knowledge and skills that their non-Montessori peers do not have.
